Request: It requested that the DeKalb County Board of Education (“the Board”) approve the intergovernmental agreement between DeKalb County Government and DeKalb County School District (“DCSD”) Transportation to provide transportation services supporting DeKalb County summer camp programs.
Why: This agreement supports a collaborative partnership between DeKalb County School District (DCSD) and DeKalb County Government to provide safe and reliable transportation for children participating in the County’s Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Affairs summer camp programs. The agreement allows DCSD to utilize existing fleet resources and personnel to support community-based programming while ensuring cost recovery.
DeKalb County School District will receive $150,000 from DeKalb County Government distributed over a three (3) year period per the contract, with the amount reduced yearly by the previous year’s paid invoice.
Details: DeKalb County Government, Parks and Recreation Program, is located at 1950 West Exchange Place, Suite 400, Tucker, Georgia, 30084. The program is designed to create an opportunity for a better quality of life for the communities of DeKalb County through people, parks, programs and partnerships.
Under the terms of the agreement, DCSD will provide up to sixteen (16) buses, including fifteen (15) standard 72-passenger buses and one (1) lift-equipped bus for special needs campers, along with certified drivers, contingent upon availability. Transportation services will be limited to pick-up and drop-off operations within the metro Atlanta area, not exceeding 40 miles per trip.
Services will support transportation to swimming lessons, open swimming activities, field trips, and end-of-season events for summer camp participants. The County will be responsible for fuel costs, while DCSD will invoice driver salaries, mileage, and reasonable depreciation.
The agreement begins June 1, 2026, and continues through July 31, 2026, with annual renewals and provisions through July 2028 for termination with 30 days’ notice by either party.
Financial impact: There is no financial impact on the District. DeKalb County School District will receive $150,000 from DeKalb County Government distributed over a three (3) year period per the contract, with the amount reduced yearly by the previous year’s paid invoice.
