Proclamation - Exceptional Children's Week

                  Proclamation     Excep onal Children’s Week
WHEREAS:     Excep onal children may be iden fied as students with au sm spectrum disorder,
             emo onal and behavioral disabili es, intellectual disabili es, orthopedic impairments,
             other health impairments, significant development delays, specific learning disabili es,
             speech/language impairments, trauma c brain injury, visual impairments, and those who
             are deaf/blind, deaf/hard of hearing who, by reason thereof, require special educa on and
             related services, and

WHEREAS:     Being consistent with the pursuit of achievement, it is essen al that all children receive
             equal opportuni es to educa on, and Excep onal children possess the same need to
             receive a high-quality educa on, and


WHEREAS:     Many DeKalb County students and community residents may not be aware of the needs
             and true potential of exceptional individuals, and it is the intent of the DeKalb County
             School District to provide all students the opportunity to lead meaningful and productive
             lives and DeKalb County can be proud of its exemplary leadership and endless dedication
             to exceptional children, and

WHEREAS:     The Council for Exceptional Children, a professional organization that promotes the
             advancement and education of all exceptional persons, has helped and will continue to
             help make advancements in the field of special education; and


THEREFORE: The DeKalb County Board of Educa on does hereby proclaim April 13-17, 2026, as
           Excep onal Children’s Week. In official recogni on, whereof, we hereby affix our signatures,
           this 20th day of April, 2026.
