        6. Number of students attending this field trip:

            727

        7. Alignment to Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) and DCSD's Portrait of a Graduate:

The field trips will align with DCSD’s Portrait of a Graduate by allowing them to be Reflective Learners, as they apply their in-the-field learning to future classroom lessons; Globally Engaged Citizens who
make connections to the world and make a difference by brainstorming ideas to help pollinators; Creative and Dynamic Learners who evaluate the information and apply it to classroom lessons; Effective
Communicators who listen with respect and communicate their learning into their journals and at home dinner tables (as prompted through social media and parent emails follow up). Each grade will have a
different field trip lesson aligned with Georgia Standards of Excellence as described below with the corresponding GSE codes. Kindergarten the lesson will be “Nature Makes Sense” during which students will
learn how animals use their senses to survive, identify their young and avoid danger (SKL2a). First grade the lesson will be “Plant Detectives” during which students will learn to identify the parts of a plant
(S1L1a) and the needs of plants (S1L1b). Second grade the lesson will be “Metamorphosis Magic” during which students will learn about the stages of the butterfly life cycle and compare life cycles of plants
and animals (S2L1a). Third grade the lesson will be “Monarch Migration” during which students will model the migration patterns of monarchs (S3L1), learn about the obstacles monarchs face, and come up
with ideas to aid in migration (S3L2b). Fourth grade the lesson will be “Ecosystems in Action” during with students will identify produces, consumers and decomposers (S4L1a) and understand the flow of
energy within a food web (S4L1b). Fifth grade the lesson will be “Sorting it Out” during which students will identify mammals and reptiles using skulls, skins, scat (S5L1a), describe how mammals have adapted
to surviving in their natural habitats (S5L2) and compare and contrast tree leaves and seeds (S5L1b).

        8. Provide a brief description of the field trip, including the learning goals and expected outcomes:

Students in grades K–5 will visit Dunwoody Nature Center, where the classes move through the meadow and park trails led by highly trained staff of environmental educators for a hands-on learning
experience that reinforces and brings to life the STEM concepts that they are taught in the classroom. The field trips are correlated to Georgia Standards of Excellence according to grade level and subject
area using academically-based curriculum materials. All groups will also learn about pollinators and monarch butterflies, connecting their field experiences to ongoing learning in the existing Dunwoody
Elementary pollinator garden. The learning goals for each grade are based on the GSE lesson. Kindergarten: Discover how animals use their senses to survive. First Grade: Learn the parts and basic needs of
plants. Second Grade: Explore metamorphosis and compare plant and animal life cycles. Third Grade: Model monarch migration and learn about challenges and conservation efforts. Fourth Grade:
            Understand ecosystems, food webs, and the roles of producers, consumers, and decomposers. Fifth Grade: Study animal adaptations (skulls, skins, tracks) and compare traits of mammals, reptiles, and birds;
examine tree leaves and seeds. The expected outcomes are that the students will build science knowledge through hands-on exploration and direct observation. They will strengthen critical thinking,
observation, and inquiry skills, while developing appreciation for local ecosystems and environmental stewardship. These outdoor experiences will connect classroom concepts to the real world.
