PROCLAMATION
PARENT & FAMILY ENGAGEMENT MONTH
WHEREAS: Families are their children’s first and most influential teachers, shaping the foundation for lifelong
learning, character development, and success, and when parents and families are engaged through
being actively involved in their children’s education, students achieve higher grades, attend school
more regularly, and are more likely to pursue postsecondary education and career goals; and
WHEREAS: Meaningful partnerships between families, schools, and communities are essential to fostering
academic achievement, promoting positive behavior, and preparing students to become productive
citizens; and
WHEREAS: The DeKalb County School District is committed to ensuring equity in access and opportunity for
every student and family, recognizing that inclusive engagement strengthens educational outcomes
and builds a culture of belonging and respect and The District reaffirms its dedication to providing
equitable opportunities for collaboration, communication, and shared decision-making between
families and educators across all schools and communities; and
WHEREAS: National Family Engagement Month provides an opportunity to celebrate the vital role that
parents and families play in the educational success of every student, and to renew our shared
responsibility to nurture that success; and
NOW THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED that the DeKalb County School District does hereby proclaim the month of
NOVEMBER as PARENT & FAMILY ENGAGEMENT MONTH in DeKalb County; and that NOVEMBER 20th
shall be recognized and celebrated as PARENT & FAMILY ENGAGEMENT DAY, encouraging all schools,
families, and community partners to participate in activities that strengthen equitable
family-school partnerships and support student achievement - ensuring that every student, regardless
of background, language, or circumstance, has access to the opportunities and supports needed to
reach their fullest potential.
