Request: It is requested that the Board of Education adopt the proposed version of Board Policy LE: School-Community Organizations.
Why: This policy is being proposed to recognize specific school-community organizations and to provide general operating guidelines for these organizations that support the district schools.
Details: Board Policy LE: School-Community Organizations was presented to identify school-community organizations and provide general operation guidelines. Proposed Board Policy LE has been reviewed by the Board Policy Review Committee. The Policy Review Committee recommended the creation of this policy.

Proposed Version
The DeKalb County Board of Education supports community involvement in district, school, and student activities.
Parents, community members, and other stakeholders are encouraged to take part in volunteer and fundraising
groups that help strengthen school programs. This policy provides guidelines for the establishment, operation,
fundraising activities, and of PTA/PTSAs, PTOs, booster clubs, and school foundations.
The board recognizes the following school-community organizations:
1. Parent Teacher Association/ Parent Teacher Student Association (PTA/PTSA) - A local, school-based, dues-
paying chapter of the national and state PTA organization.
2. Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) - A parent or community-led organization, other than a PTA/PTSA, that
voluntarily raises funds to support a specific school in the district.
3. Booster Organization - A parent or community-led organization that voluntarily raises funds and provides
support to specific student activity programs within district schools.
4. School Foundation - A registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established to support and enhance the
educational programs and initiatives of a school by donating funds, services, or infrastructure.
The following general guidelines apply to all school-community organizations:
1. Organizations must be registered with the district and coordinate specific activities with the principal of the
school they support.
2. Parent and community volunteers assisting with school activities, events, or projects must comply with Board
Policy IFCD: School Volunteers. IFCD: School Volunteers
3. On-campus fundraising activities must comply with Regulation KEB-R(1): Solicitations KEB-R(1): Solicitations -
Solicitations and must not interfere with student instructional time.
4. Any donation made to an individual school or to the district must comply with Board Policy DFK: Gifts and
