RECOGNITION
National Police Week, May 11- May 17, 2025
WHEREAS: In 1962, President John F. Kennedy and Congress approved a joint resolution declaring May
13-19 as National Police Week, recognizing the dedicated and selfless contributions of police
officers in enforcing laws; and
WHEREAS: President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. designated May 15 of each year as Peace Officers Memorial
Day and the week in which it falls as National Police Week; and
WHEREAS: The DeKalb County School District (DCSD) Public Safety Department is a law enforcement
agency of certified police officers and security staff trained to reduce violence on school
property by informing students on the dangers of substance abuse, introducing programs that
will promote and enhance acceptable social behaviors, and by serving as positive role models;
and
WHEREAS: The DeKalb County School District Public Safety Department is an essential asset to our
community as it plays a vital role in supporting the education of all students through maintaining
a safe learning environment, which fosters a culture and climate of inclusion and service; and
WHEREAS: The DeKalb County School District Public Safety Department’s officers and staff have pledged
to empower future leaders through Safety, Professionalism, and Engagement; and
WHEREAS: The DeKalb County School District Public Safety Department emphasizes improving safety and
security through collaboration with administrators, teachers, staff, families, and the community,
empowering every student to achieve their fullest potential; and
WHEREAS: The DeKalb County School District’s Public Safety Department focuses on its agency goals of
Professional Service, Maximum Safety, Relevant Engagement, and a Focus on Students; and
THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the DeKalb County Board of Education proudly proclaims May 11-
17, 2025, as National Police Week in the DeKalb County School District and calls upon the
entire DCSDcommunity to join in honoring, thanking, and actively supporting our Public
Safety professionals for the critical role they play in protecting and uplifting our schools and
neighborhoods.
