Request: It is requested that the DeKalb County Board of Education proclaim the week of April 21-25, 2025, as Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week.
Why: Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week is a time to recognize, appreciate, and advocate for those who work with young people during out-of-school hours. Afterschool professionals deserve recognition, appreciation, and support for their work with kids, families, and communities.
Details: Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week is a time to recognize a group of professionals who work closely with students, families, and communities during those important out-of-school hours. The week is marked by celebrations and advocacy efforts encouraging appreciation and support for afterschool professionals who make a profound difference in the lives of our youth.

Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week
April 21-25, 2025
WHEREAS: The After School Extended Day Program (ASEDP) has designated April 21-25, 2025, as
Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week (i.e. the National AfterSchool Association); and
WHEREAS: After School Extended Day Program (ASEDP) schools in the DeKalb County Schools District
provide students with a clean, safe, and nurturing after school environment; and
WHEREAS: After School Extended Day Programs (ASEDP) improve student social-e motional skills
and academic performance through meaningful experiences, thus improving the quality of their
education, engaging students, mitigating risk factors and positively impacts youth outcomes; and
WHEREAS: After School Extended Day Programs (ASEDP) educators in the DeKalb County School District
are dedicated professionals who inspire and encourage students to achieve their school goals
and contribute to the overall growth of our community; and
WHEREAS: Partnerships between After School Extended Day Programs in the DeKalb County School
District, local businesses, and local government enhance the quality and relevance of education,
ensuring students are prepared to complete their education; and
WHEREAS: After School Extended Day Programs, Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week in the
DeKalb County School District provides an opportunity to celebrate the achievements and
contributions of Afterschool Professionals to raise awareness of the importance of After School
Extended Day Programs in preparing wellrounded students.
THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the DeKalb County School District hereby proclaims April 21-25, 2025,
as Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week and encourages all students, educators,
parents, and community members to recognize and support the valuable role of Afterschool
Professionals in our schools and community. In official recognition whereof, we hereby affix our
signatures this 21st day of April 2025.
