Request: It is requested that the Board of Education officially recognize the secondary students from Miller Grove Middle School, Lithonia High School, and Miller Grove High School, who are participating in the Alliance Theatre Program.
Why: The DeKalb County School is committed to supporting the continued development of these programs and others to maintain and improve visual and performing arts programs for all students.
Details: In partnership with the Alliance Theatre, students from Miller Grove Middle School, Lithonia High School, and Miller Grove High School engaged in theatre residencies and musical production preparation.

Alliance Theater Program Partnerships at Miller Grove Middle
School, Lithonia High School, and Miller Grove High School
WHEREAS: The DeKalb County Board of Education believes visual and performing arts education are essential
components of the educational system; and
WHEREAS: Visual and performing arts are part of a well-rounded education; and
WHEREAS: The arts develop students’ creative problem–solving and critical thinking abilities; and
WHEREAS: Students from Miller Grove Middle School, Lithonia High School, and Miller Grove High School
were selected to participate in Alliance Theatre Programs. Miller Grove Middle School is one of
three schools in the state to participate in the JumpStart Theatre Program, which supports musical
theatre production. Lithonia High School and Miller Grove High School participated in dramaturgy
residencies and produced a study guide, which is featured on the Alliance Theatre Field Trips
webpage. Their success highlights their remarkable talent and the strong support and guidance
from their theatre educators and schools. Their passion, hard work, and artistic excellence are a
testament to the transformative power of quality theatre education in our schools.
WHEREAS: The DeKalb County Board of Education is committed to supporting the continued development
of the visual and performing arts program and others to maintain and improve arts programs for
all students; and
THEREFORE: We, the DeKalb County Board of Education, do hereby acknowledge and recognize the outstanding
accomplishments of the students from Miller Grove Middle School, Lithonia High School, and Miller Grove High
School for their selection to participate in prestigious Alliance Theatre Programs. We commend the theatre educators
for their dedication and efforts to enhance the quality of theatre education for all students. In official recognition
whereof, we hereby affix our signatures this 10th day of March 2025.
