               RECOGNITION
                   Honoring Najee Smothers - DeKalb Silver Streaks

WHEREAS:     Najee Smothers, who started at Laurel Ridge Elementary School at six, deserves recognition
             and praise for his hard work and athletic dedication. His commitment has made a lasting impact
             and inspires others.

WHEREAS:     Lisa Patterson, the DeKalb Adapted Sports Coordinator, has been following Najee’s journey
             with the Silver Streaks since he was six years old. He has competed in wheelchair handball,
             basketball, football, and track.

WHEREAS:     Najee Smothers, now a junior in High School, coached by DeKalb Educators, Delton Schoates,
             and Everett Schoates. Najee was selected as part of the 10-person roster for the inaugural U.S.
             National team. The team traveled to Cairo, Egypt, for the International Handball Federation
             World Championships,

WHEREAS:     DeKalb County DeKalb Silver Streaks standout Najee Smothers traveled to Egypt with the USA
             Wheelchair Handball team in September 2024. They returned with a silver medal from the IHF
             (International Handball Federation) Wheelchair Handball World Championships.


THEREFORE:   On behalf of DeKalb County Athletics, we would like to celebrate Najee Smothers for his
             outstanding accomplishments. We wish him the best of luck in all his future endeavors.
