Each member of the DeKalb County Board of Education will shall be compensated in the amounts legislated by the
gGeneral aAssembly.
The bBoard further recognizes the importance of its members participating in professional and educational
organizations whose primary purposes are to promote education and quality service as a board
member boardsmanship. Board members will shall be reimbursed for documented actual and necessary expenses
incurred in connection with travel on official Board business as authorized by the bBoard chair. All expenses must
be properly documented and in compliance with the rules and regulations of the DeKalb County School District and
the Georgia Department of Education.
During budget preparation, the bBoard will shall set a total professional travel budget for all bBoard members to be
approved by the b Board and included as a line item in the budget. Each bBoard member will shall be allocated a
proportionate share of the total travel budget. That amount will shall appear as a line item in the budget, and each
bBoard member will shall be limited to the line item amount in the budget. Budgeted travel amounts not utilized by
each bBoard member will shall remain in the general fund and shall be designated for educational projects for the
subsequent fiscal year.
Separate from the travel budget, the board will set a total professional development budget for fees and other
related costs. Each board member will be allocated a proportionate share of the total professional development
budget. That amount will appear as a line-item in the budget, and each board member will be limited to the line-item
amount in the budget. Budgeted professional development amounts not utilized by each board member will remain
in the general fund.
Board members shall not be reimbursed for travel expenses incurred after either (1) the final date for qualifying to
run for reelection if they do not so qualify or (2) the date of the school board election if they are defeated for
reelection, except in instances where Board members have been selected as program participants prior to their
defeat or failure to qualify.
The monthly financial statements prepared by the Chief Financial Officer will shall indicate, as a separate item, the
total amount of travel reimbursed to Board members for the month as well as a cumulative total for the fiscal year.
