c. Recognition: National ESEA Distinguished School ~ Robert Shaw Traditional Theme School

RECOGNITION
WHEREAS: P R O C L A M AT I O N
Honoring Robert Shaw Traditional Theme School
The DeKalb County Board of Education believes educating students is an essential component of the
educational system; and
WHEREAS: Each year the Georgia Department of Education recognizes the highest performing Title I schools as Title
I Distinguished schools and schools making the most significant improvement as Title I Reward schools
and;
WHEREAS: Robert Shaw Traditional Theme School was named a Title I Reward school and a Title I Distinguished
school for being in the top 5% of all Title I schools in the state of Georgia with significant improvement;
and
WHEREAS: Robert Shaw Traditional Theme School then became eligible to compete for the National ESEA
Distinguished School honor; and
WHEREAS: A total of 78 Title I Distinguished Georgia schools from 40 school districts were eligible to apply for
this annual recognition. These honorees were selected based on academic achievement and written
responses describing initiatives implemented that resulted in outstanding achievement among
traditionally underserved subgroups of students; and
WHEREAS: Robert Shaw Traditional Theme School was selected and named one of only two schools in the state of
Georgia to be a National ESEA Distinguished School; and
WHEREAS: Robert Shaw Traditional Theme School received a $20,000 grant used to support their attendance at the
national conference in February and other Title I initiatives; and
WHEREAS: Robert Shaw Traditional Theme School’s team was recognized in Portland, Oregon with a
commemorative award package; and
WHEREAS: The DeKalb County Board of Education is committed to supporting and recognizing the achievements of
the staff and students in our district; and
THEREFORE: We, the DeKalb County Board of Education, do hereby acknowledge and recognize the great
accomplishment of the Robert Shaw Traditional Theme School for their outstanding achievements and
commend the educators for their efforts to enhance the quality education for all students. In official
recognition whereof, we hereby affix our signatures, this 11th day of March 2024.
