Resolution to Increase DeKalb County School District Salaries 2024

                        RESOLUTION
             Proposal to the Georgia General Assembly to Increase DeKalb County School District
                     Board of Education Members’ Salaries to $30,000 Effective 7/1/2024




                       P R O C L A M AT I O N
WHEREAS: The DeKalb County School District Board of Education plays a critical role in overseeing the district’s educational
matters, ensuring quality education for scholars, and making impactful decisions for the community;

WHEREAS: The responsibilities and time commitment of Board of Education members have significantly increased,
necessitating fair and competitive compensation to attract and retain qualified diverse, skilled, and dedicated individuals, whose
representation mirrors the community;

WHEREAS: The current annual salary for each School Board member is $18,000, and the per diem is $450 for each day
of attendance at meetings of the board plus reimbursement for actual expenses necessarily incurred in connection with official
board business;

WHEREAS: A salary adjustment is imperative to recognize the dedication and hard work of Board of Education members,
enhancing the overall effectiveness of the Board;

WHEREAS: The next scheduled election for certain School Board members will occur in May 2024;

WHEREAS: The current Board of Education strives to ensure that the position of board member remains attractive to committed
and capable individuals interested in future board service;

WHEREAS: The DeKalb County Board of Education recognizes the importance of operating as a united and cohesive entity,
enhancing student performance and fiscal management by promoting collective perspectives, visions, priorities, and approaches
among individual Board members, creating an effective decision-making apparatus;

WHEREAS: In accordance with Georgia statute (O.C.G.A. § 20-2-50), the Board of Education holds authority and duty
to govern and oversee the management of public schools within the district.

THEREFORE, be it resolved that the DeKalb County School District Board of Education hereby requests that the Georgia
General Assembly approves an increase in the salaries of all seven members to $30,000 annually, effective July 1, 2024.

Be it further resolved that the necessary budgetary adjustments shall be made to accommodate the increased salaries
and the Superintendent is directed to implement these changes promptly.

Be it further resolved that the DeKalb County School District is grateful to the Board of Education members for their dedicated
service and commitment to scholars, parents, and the community.

This Board of Education respectfully requests that this proposal be approved immediately, and the requested action take effect
on July 1, 2024.
