AT I O N
National School Bus Safety Recognition Week/Bus Driver Appreciation Week
WHEREAS: Safe, comfortable, and reliable student transportation and school bus service is an essential
component of the DeKalb County School District’s vision to inspire our community of learners to
achieve educational excellence; and
WHEREAS: Public school transportation helps DCSD students arrive safely to and from our schools each
day; and
WHEREAS: The highest standard of school bus safety is maintained through rigorous driver training and
certification requirements; and
WHEREAS: The dedicated members of the DCSD transportation team transport over 50,000 bus riders daily
to District schools and centers, as well as services hundreds more through field trips, band,
athletics, special events and after school programs; and
WHEREAS: The school bus drivers, bus monitors, dispatchers, mechanics, and support staff of the DCSD
transportation department maintain the highest standard of school bus safety and consistently
display their commitment to professionalism, efficiency, and the health and well-being of our
students; and
WHEREAS: The school bus drivers and transportation staff members have shown exceptional dedication and
enthusiasm in performing their duties and should be recognized for their steadfast commitment
to safely transporting DCSD students.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the DeKalb County School District proclaims October 16-20, 2023,
National School Bus Safety Recognition Week/School Bus Driver Appreciation Week; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the DeKalb County School District endorses the observance of National School
Bus Safety Recognition Week/School Bus Driver Appreciation Week, October 16-20, 2023, as an opportunity
to support the purposes and practices of school bus safety and encourages all members of our community to
participate.
