Request: It is requested that the Board of Education officially recognize the achievement of Southwest DeKalb HS Track and Field Coach, Mr. Bob Mullen being named State Coach of the Year.
P R O C L A M AT I O N
RECOGNITION
Honoring Coach Bob Mullen, Southwest DeKalb Track and Field
WHEREAS: The DeKalb County School System is dedicated to developing students academically as well as
athletically; and
WHEREAS: The U.S. Track & Field And Cross-Country Coaches Association named Southwest DeKalb High
School track coach Bob Mullen as the 2023 Boy’s High School Track and Field Coach of Year; and
WHEREAS: Mullen’s Southwest DeKalb track team repeated as state champions last spring bringing home
the Class 4A state title after having won the Class 5A championship in 2022. The Panthers also
repeated as the DeKalb County Track and Field Championships team champ; and Mullen was
named the DeKalb Boys’ Coach of the Year; and
WHEREAS: The Panthers scored 77 points on the track on the final day of the 2023 GHSA State Championships
and set three new records on the way to knocking off Starr’s Mill (81-77.5); and
WHEREAS: The Southwest relay squad set a new state record in the 4x200-meter relay of 1:25.13. The record
was the second of the meet for the relay squad who set the mark of 1:26.32 in the prelims breaking
the mark of 1.28.87 set by Monroe a year ago. Coach Mullen trained the team to work hard and
encouraged them to give their very best in every event.
THEREFORE: We, the DeKalb County Board of Education, do hereby acknowledge the great athletic
accomplishment of Southwest DeKalb High School’s Coach Bob Mullen having achieved one of the highest levels
attainable by a high school track and field coach. In official recognition whereof, we hereby affix our signatures, this
11th day of September 2023.
