Request: It is requested that the Board of Education approve the lease of Evolv Weapons Detection for middle and high schools in an amount of $1,586,832.55 to be paid for Year 2 of the Lease:
Year 1: $3,254,355.50
Year 2: $1,586,832.55
Year 3: $1,586,832.55
Year 4: $1,586,832.55
Why: The safety of students and staff in the DeKalb County School District is extremely important. DeKalb County School District has seen an increase in the number of weapons confiscated on district property. As of February 2, 2023, a total of 16 handguns, 38 knives,13 other weapons for a total of 67 weapons have been confiscated.
Details: The Evolv Weapons Detection System combines powerful sensor technology with proven artificial intelligence, security ecosystem integrations and comprehensive venue analytics to ensure safer, more accurate threat detection at an unprecedented speed and volume. The technology allows individuals to enter school buildings without stopping, emptying pockets or bags or waiting in lines. Stations include technological devices that will be monitored by school safety personnel. The devices will identify specifically where the items in question are located to allow for quick intervention.

This is to confirm that the Evolv Express® weapons detection system is a sole source product,
developed, designed, and manufactured exclusively by the recommended supplier, Evolv
Technology, in partnership with its U.S.-based contract manufacturer. Evolv Express uses a unique
combination of AI software and advanced sensors to reliably detect dangerous weapons while
significantly reducing nuisance alarms from harmless personal items. Evolv owns or co-owns six U.S
patents around this technology and has sixteen additional pending or allowed patent applications.
Since no other company makes a similar product utilizing our proven, proprietary technology,
comparative performance and price competition data is not available.
Unique performance characteristics of Evolv Express weapons detection system include:
• 10x Faster than metal detectors Screens over 4,000 people per hour. Visitors walk side-by-side or
in groups through multi-lane entrances up to eight feet wide.
• Real-time Metallic Weapons Detection: The Evolv machine learning Cortex AI Software Platform
instantly distinguishes between threats such as a gun, and commonly carried items.
• Frictionless Screening: No stopping is required. No emptying pockets or removing bags. Groups of
people screened simultaneously; personal items do not require removal. Visitors simply walk
through naturally.
• Targeted Searches, Reducing the Burden on Security Teams: Security operators see a real-time
image on software enabled wireless tablets showing where the potential threat is located on person
being screened by system.
• Smarter Over Time: Stay ahead of the threat landscape. With the Evolv Cortex AI Software

• Touchless Security Screening: Due to the low nuisance alarm rate, targeted searches, and the
ability to search bags the Evolv Express limits the need for guards to come in close contact with

by limiting lines for security screening and that are typically caused by the divestiture process that is
associated with traditional security screening.
