May 17, 2023 called meeting and executive session

                     CALLED MEETING AND EXECUTIVE SESSION
                                    OF THE
                      DEKALB COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION

                                         May 17, 2023

The DeKalb County Board of Education held its Called Meeting & Executive Session, May 17,
2023, in the Cabinet Room on the Robert Freeman Administrative Instruction Complex located
at 1701 Mountain Industrial Boulevard, Stone Mountain, GA 30083.

Mr. Diijon DaCosta, Sr., Chair convened the meeting at 10:07 am. and noted the following were
in attendance; Mrs. Anna Hill, Mrs. Deirdre Pierce, Mrs. Allyson Gevertz, Mrs. Whitney
McGinniss. and Mrs. Vickie B. Turner. Dr. Joyce Morley attended the meeting virtually.

Also in attendance were General Counsel Attorney, Ms. Melanie Slaton and Dr. Yolanda
Williamson, Executive Administrator to the Board.

ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA
Mr. DaCosta, Sr. requested that the DeKalb County Board of Education adopt the May 17, 2023,
called meeting and executive session agenda.

There being no objection, the agenda was approved.

ADJOURN TO EXECUTIVE SESSION
Mr. DaCosta, Sr. called for a motion to adjourn May 17, 2023, called meeting to an executive
session for the purpose of discussing permitted matters regarding litigation, land, legal,
personnel, and student appeals.

Motion by Mrs. Pierce to adjourn to executive session, seconded by Ms. Turner, the May 17,
2023, called meeting adjourned to Executive Session with a vote of 7/0.

       1. ADJOURN THE EXECUTIVE SESSION AND RECONVENE TO AN OPEN
          SESSION
          Mr. DaCosta, Sr. adjourned the May 17, 2023, executive session and with no
          objections, reconvened to an open session.

ACTION ITEM
  a. Mr. DaCosta, Sr. called for a motion to approve the employment agreement between
     Devon Q. Horton and DeKalb County Board of Education as discussed, in Executive
     session.
     On a motion by Mrs. Hill, seconded by Mrs. Gevertz, and with a vote of (6\1 (Dr. Morley
     opposed).
     The motion passed.

ADJOURN
Mr. DaCosta, Sr. requested that the DeKalb County Board of Education adjourn the May 17,
2023, executive session and called meeting.
