Financial impact: There is no impact to the general budget as the position already exists in the general budget.

Serve as the K-12 Science content, curriculum and pedagogy expert who supports K-12 teaching and learning
at 68 schools, to ensure the tenets of the district’s mission/vision are realized and implemented with fidelity.
Key accomplishments:
▪ Effectively research, plan, design and implement relevant professional development for instructional
leaders and teachers to increase students’ academic achievement in K-12 science.

CURRICULA & STANDARDIZED TEST DEVELOPMENT
▪ Developed and implemented district-wide summer learning programs that address various learning
opportunities such as STEM and Advanced Learning for All to provide remediation through an
acceleration model to improve student academic outcomes in core content areas.
▪ Developed a district wide initiative to address Environmental Sustainability through problem-based
learning to address the challenges of obesity, food deserts, climate justice, etc. in order to empower
students to protect their community and address current challenges that negatively impact their living
environment.
▪ Designed and implemented district-wide integrated curriculum for K-2 and grades 6th and 7th to
provide students with foundational knowledge in order to be successful in accelerated science learning
pathways.
▪ Developed science course alignment with Career Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE)
pathways to better support student’s opportunity for successful completion of STEM related pathways
through alternative course sequence recommendations.
▪ Collaborated with Metro RESA and the GA Department of Education to design and implement
professional development for K-12 Science teachers that addressed specific strategies for connecting
ideas within and across content to deepen student understandings in science.
▪ Designed and implemented course entitled, Introductions to Biotechnology, and Applications of
Biotechnology. The course is offered as a science elective for juniors and seniors in the state of
Georgia. The effort involved co-writing extensive course, statewide standards.
▪ NASA Astrobiology, Life on the Edge, Summer Learning Program: Worked in tandem with Georgia
Institute of Technology faculty, research scientists, and undergraduates to develop and implement a
week-long summer enrichment program for high school students.
▪ DeKalb County Biology Common Core Georgia Performance Standards: Developed curriculum
mapping for the course, unpacked and translated the Georgia performance Standards, then facilitated
integration into the DeKalb County School district instructional units; reviewed and edited existing
units. Developed new units, and common assessments that aligned to the standards and the expected
level of understanding. Enhanced units to promote/target 21st century research/digital skills.
▪ DeKalb County Science Standardized Test Development: Assisted in the development and
implementation of county-wide student assessments. Collaboratively worked to develop science
benchmark, and Student Learning Objectives (SLO) tests. Collaborated with Pearson Consulting
Company, and building/district leaders to ensure fidelity of science tests.

NASA Astrobiology Institute/ Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA (Jun. 2010–2013)
Summer Research Fellowship
Key contributions:
▪ School of Biology: Assisted in NASA research that primarily focused on the origins and early
evolution of life on Earth. This research focuses on evolutionary synthetic biology, molecular
evolution and the origins of life.

▪ School of Chemistry & Biochemistry: Assisted in NASA research that primarily focused on ribosomal
origins and evolution. This research entailed working with an ancestral ribosome model.
