Request: It is requested that the Board of Education officially recognize the achievements of three Southwest DeKalb HS Wrestling Team members.

                RECOGNITION Honoring Jerrel Baskins, Southwest DeKalb Wrestling

WHEREAS:         The DeKalb County School System is dedicated to developing students academically as well as
                 athletically; and

WHEREAS:         Jerrel Baskins, a senior wrestler at Southwest DeKalb High School, recently completed the 2023 wrestling
                 season as the Class 4A Traditional Wrestling State Tournament, 175-weight class state champion; and

WHEREAS:         Baskins defeated Heritage of Catoosa’s Evan Wingrave with a 4-3 decision in the title match to win the
                 gold medal following wins over Northwest Whitfield’s Daniel Soto 8-3 in the quarterfinals and a semifinal
                 win of a major decision (12-2) over North Oconee’s Louden Schnake; and

WHEREAS:         The senior also brought home the 175 titles from the DeKalb County Wrestling Championships, the Area
                 6-4A Wrestling Championships and the Class 4A State Sectional Championships; and

WHEREAS:         Baskins, known as one of Southwest DeKalb’s wrestling “Four Horsemen” finished the season 24-0
                 overall in leading the Southwest DeKalb Panthers wrestling team to a third place finish in the GHSA Class
                 4A Traditional Wrestling State Championships; and; and

THEREFORE: We, the DeKalb County Board of Education, do hereby acknowledge the great athletic accomplishment
of Southwest DeKalb High School’s Jerrel Baskins having achieved one of the highest levels attainable by a high school
wrestler. In official recognition whereof, we hereby affix our signatures, this13th day of March 2023.
