                 RECOGNITION  Honoring Dharrin Smith, Southwest DeKalb Wrestling

WHEREAS:           The DeKalb County School System is dedicated to developing students academically as well as
                   athletically; and

WHEREAS:           Dharrin Smith, a senior wrestler at Southwest DeKalb High School, recently completed the 2023 wrestling
                   season as the Class 4A Traditional Wrestling State Tournament, 157-weight class state champion; and

WHEREAS:           Smith defeated Troup’s Tim Dunn with a 5-3 decision in the title match to win the gold medal following
                   wins over Walnut Grove’s Gareth Aderhold 10-3 in the quarterfinals and a semifinal win of 7-3 over North
                   Hall’s Joey Crew; and

WHEREAS:           The senior also brought home the 157 titles from the DeKalb County Wrestling Championships, the Area
                   6-4A Wrestling Championships and the Class 4A State Sectional Championships; and

WHEREAS:           Smith, known as one of Southwest DeKalb’s wrestling “Four Horsemen” finished the season 26-2 overall
                   in leading the Southwest DeKalb Panthers wrestling team to a third place finish in the GHSA Class 4A
                   Traditional Wrestling State Championships; and; and

THEREFORE: We, the DeKalb County Board of Education, do hereby acknowledge the great athletic accomplishment of
Dharrin Smith having achieved one of the highest levels attainable by a high school wrestler. In official recognition whereof,
we hereby affix our signatures, this 13th day of March 2023.
