OF THE
DEKALB COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION
February 21 – February 22, 2023
The DeKalb County Board of Education held its 2-Day Board Retreat, February
21–February 22, 2023, at the Inn at Serenbe located at 10950 Hutcheson Ferry Road, Chatt Hills,
Georgia.
Mr. Diijon DaCosta, Sr., Chair, convened the meeting at 10:00 a.m. and noted the following
were in attendance; Mrs. Vickie B. Turner, Mrs. Anna Hill, Mrs. Deirdre Pierce, Ms. Allyson
Gevertz, Mrs. Whitney McGinniss and Dr. Vasanne S. Tinsley, Interim Superintendent.
Also in attendance were General Counsel Attorney, Ms. Melanie Slaton and Dr. Yolanda
Williamson, Executive Administrator to the Board.
ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA
Mr. DaCosta, Sr. requested that the DeKalb County Board of Education adopt the February 21 –
February 22, 2023, 2-Day Board Retreat.
On a motion by Mrs. Pierce, seconded by Mrs. Hill and there being no objection, the agenda was
approved 6-0.

RECESS BOARD RETREAT – DAY 1
Dr. DaCosta, Sr. requested that the DeKalb County Board of Education recess Day 1, February
21, 2023, of the 2-day board retreat. There being no objections, Day 1 of the board retreat
recessed at 4:00 PM.
RECONVENE BOARD RETREAT – FEBRUARY 22, 2023 (DAY 2 – 10:00 AM)
Mr. Diijon DaCosta, Sr. requested that the DeKalb County Board of Education reconvene the
meeting at 10:00 a.m. and noted the following were in attendance; Mrs. Vickie B. Turner, Mrs.
Anna Hill, Mrs. Deirdre P. Pierce, Ms. Allyson Gevertz, Mrs. Whitney McGinniss and Dr.
Morley attended virtually.
Dr. Yolanda Williamson, Executive Administrator to the Board was alos in attendance.
On a motion by Mrs. Hill, seconded by Ms. Gevertz. There being no objections, the board
reconvened day 2 of the board retreat and adjourned to executive session.
ADJOURN TO EXECUTIVE SESSION
Mr. DaCosta, Sr. called for a motion to adjourn February 22, 2023, Day 2 of the board retreat to
an executive session for the purpose of discussing permitted matters regarding litigation, land,
legal, personnel, and student appeals.
On a motion by Mrs. Hill, seconded by Mrs. Gevertz and with a unanimous vote of (6\0), the
February 22, 2023, board retreat adjourned to Executive Session at p.m.
ADJOURN
Mr. DaCosta, Sr. requested that the DeKalb County Board of Education adjourn the February 22,
2023, executive session, and February 21 – 22, 2023 board retreat.
Mr. DaCosta, Sr. noted there were no objections, the 2-day board retreat adjourned at 12:15 p.m.
