Student Teaching and Internships
The Board of Education directs the Superintendent or his designee to ensure through administrative rule MFB that college students may participate in a practicum, internship, or student teaching activity. Colleges and universities shall approve supervised practicums, internships and student teaching experiences for college credit. Students must be approved through the Department of Professional Learning, pursuant to the Memorandum of Understanding with their college or university. Those employees, employed with non renewable certificates, attending classes at a college or university seeking a degree, shall be allowed to count supervised in- field work assignments through their regular job responsibilities.
Colleges and universities are one avenue to receive college credit for supervised practicums, internships, or student teaching activities. The systems’ alternative certification programs, approved by the Professional Standards Commission, shall support candidates employed by the system and seeking a five year renewable certificate.
