The DeKalb County Board of Education welcomes parents, legal guardians and other visitors to the schools as key stakeholders in fostering collaboration to promote student success. The Board’s highest priority, however, is to provide a safe, secure and orderly educational environment, especially in the classroom.
- Safety Procedures
Upon entrance to a school all parents and visitors are required to report to the front office, state their name and business, and receive an ID badge. Staff members should immediately refer, escort or report visitors without a badge to the front office.
- Integrity
To ensure the safety of students, the confidentiality of personal information, and the integrity of the learning environment, the Board limits visitors as follows:

During School Hours

The parents or legal guardian of a current student are welcome visitors to the school.
- Other family members listed on the emergency school contact list and approved by the parent or legal guardian may visit within the school.
- An individual with official business invited by the school, including, but not limited to, community volunteers, student mentors, and guest speakers are welcomed as visitors to the school.
Classroom visits require 24-hours prior notice and approval from the principal or his/her designee. Parent/teacher conferences may not be arranged during the instructional day without approval from the principal and\or designee.

After School Hours

No students or unauthorized persons may remain on the school campus after regular school hours without supervision by District personnel.

School/District Sponsored Events

Students and adult spectators at school events that are open to the public are expected to model good sportsmanship and citizenship.
- Students and adults at school and District sponsored events are expected to leave immediately upon conclusion of the event
Any visitor to a school or school event who violates this policy may be asked to leave the event and may lose the privilege of attending events or being allowed on campus.
- Disruptions
In accordance with state law, O.C.G.A. § 20-2-1181, it shall be unlawful for any person to disrupt or interfere in the operation of any school within the District. Any person violating this provision shall be guilty of a misdemeanor of a high and aggravated nature.
