Policy approved by the Board of Education and the Superintendent or his/her designee directives have been formed to provide and continue the identification, placement, continuation and delivery model criteria relevant to all intellectually gifted students in accordance with the Georgia Department of Education Requirements.
The DeKalb County School System Gifted Program guidelines are stated in the program handbook.
Board of Education wishes to provide a program of instruction for students in the DeKalb County School District who demonstrate a high degree of intellectual ability and need special instruction, special ancillary services, or both to achieve at levels commensurate with their intellectual abilities. These students may be eligible for placement in the District’s program for gifted students commensurate with state rule 160-4-2-.38
Once students have entered the gifted program, they must continue to meet the Gifted Program continuation criteria as stated in the Gifted Program Handbook.
In the event that a student fails to meet these continuation criteria, the local school Gifted Program Eligibility Team will abide by the continuation policy administrative procedures required to support the needs of the student.
