The chair and vice chair of the DeKalb County Board of Education shall be elected during its first meeting each January by a majority of the members of the Board. The chair and vice chair will serve a one-year term but may be elected to serve additional terms by a majority vote of the board.
In the event that a chair and vice chair are not elected in January, the officer(s) will continue to serve until a successor is elected. A vacancy in either office will be filled by a majority vote of the members of the board for the remainder of the term.
The chair will preside at board meetings and will perform all duties as may be prescribed by law and the board.
The vice chair will assist the chair and will perform the duties and obligations of the chair when needed. The vice chair will serve as chair of the Audit committee.
In the absence of both the chair and the vice chair at a meeting, the attending members will elect by majority vote one of their members to preside.
