Serving as a school board member is an important public service. School boards play a critical role in setting the policies that lead to the operation of a successful school system.
Each member of the DeKalb County Board of Education should be committed to the academic achievement of all students and the improvement of all schools in the District. Board members should work together on behalf of all students and all schools. Each Board member’s constituency should be the entire District.
Board members have no authority to take official action as individuals. Official action may be taken only by the Board as a whole.
