RESOLUTION
DeKalb County School District’s Commitment To Protecting All Students
WHEREAS: DeKalb County School District (DCSD) is committed to ensuring that every child – regardless of
immigration status, national origin, or the status of their parents or caregivers – has full
access to a safe, supportive, and high-quality educational environment: and
WHEREAS: DCSD recognizes its legal obligations under Plyler v. Doe, 457 U.S. 202 (1982) and the Family
Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which guarantee a student’s right to public education and
protect the confidentiality of student records; and
WHEREAS: DCSD does not ask for or collect immigration status information on students or families, protects
student records from unauthorized disclosure, has established procedures for responding to law
enforcement activity, provides guidance for DCSD employees, and communicates protection to DCSD
families in multiple languages; and
NOW THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED that the DeKalb Board of Education affirms that every DCSD student is entitled
to a safe and welcoming school environment; and directs the Superintendent to continue taking
appropriate steps to ensure that all students can learn free from fear and with full confidence in the
support of their school district. Adopted this 9th day of February 2026.
