March Submitted application for Incorporation with Georgia’s Secretary of State
May Adopted Foundation’s By Laws
May Created and adopted a Foundation Strategic Plan
June Received Employer Identification Number (EIN) from Georgia’ s Secretary of State
July Adopted Conflict of Interest Policy & Disclosure
July Completed and Submitted Federal Form 1023 ~ Application for Recognition of
Exemption
December (Application for Recognition of Exemption)
Under Section 501(c) (3) for Federal Tax-Exempt Status.
Process takes between 3 – 6 months from date of receipt by IRS
NEXT STEPS
Complete and file Georgia application for Tax-Exemption
Can only be submitted after receiving Federal Tax-Exempt Status
Complete and file to register entity under Georgia Charitable Solicitation Act which is necessary if you are a
charity which is the case of the Foundation. Filing is good for two (2) years.
File annual tax returns

✓ Establish policies and procedures for accepting funds received
✓ and disbursements made on behalf of the donor/contributor.
✓ Monitor and ensure that financial reporting reflect funds are
correctly appropriated and monies properly expended from accounts
associated with gifting and contributions.
✓ Ensure that good financial practices are being followed.

Foundations within DCSD Schools to introduce their Foundation.

to provide information to the Board of their interest in partnering
with the Foundation (October 17, 2024)
◼ Signature Event ~ a festive event sponsored by the Foundation
for the School District to interact with parents, students, teachers
and community. ( 2025)
