4. Ready For Action: Board Policy BBA: Board Officers
Summary: Presented by: Mrs. Marissa Key, Executive Director of Legal Affairs, Division of Legal Services
Request: It is requested that the Board of Education accept an amendment to Board Policy BBA: Board Officers for First Read. The proposed revisions are requested to update the policy and to clarify the current language. This policy has been reviewed and analyzed by the Board Policy Committee. The Committee agrees on the recommended revisions.
Details: The purpose of the Board Policy Review Committee is to ensure the ongoing review, development, and refinement of Board policies governing the District. The Board Policy Review Committee has the goal of promoting transparency, accountability, and compliance with state, local, and federal laws while fostering a safe, equitable, and inclusive environment for all within the District.
Financial impact: There is no financial impact to the District.

CLEAN VERSION
The Chair and Vice Chair of the DeKalb County Board of Education shall be elected during
its first meeting each January. The Chair and the Vice Chair shall be elected by a majority of
the members of the Board and will serve for a term of one year. The Superintendent will
preside until the chair is elected. In the event that a Chair and Vice Chair are not elected in
January, the existing Chair and Vice Chair will continue to serve until a successor is
elected. A vacancy created by death, resignation, or other cause will be filled by an election
for the remainder of the one-year term.
The Vice Chair will assist the Chair and will perform the duties and obligations of the Chair
when the Chair is absent or incapacitated. The Vice Chair will serve as Chair of the Audit
Committee.
In the absence of both the Chair and the Vice Chair at a meeting, the attending members will
elect by majority vote one of their members to preside.
The Superintendent shall be the Secretary of the Board and perform all duties established by
Georgia law or delegated by the Board.
