ii. Donation Acceptance: $5,000 from the Byard Family Legacy Fund, Inc. to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. High School Athletics Department

Request: In accordance with Board Policy DFK, Gifts and Bequests, it is requested that the Board of Education receive a donation of $5,000 from the Byard Family Legacy Fund, Inc., to be used for improvements of Athletics Department facilities and resources for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. High School.
Why: The purpose of this agenda item is to accept a donation totaling $5,000 for the Athletics Department, from the Byard Family Legacy Fund, Inc., to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. High School.
Details: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. High School is requesting that the Board of Education approve the donation from the Byard Family Legacy Fund, Inc., for $5,000. This donation will support the improvements of such facilities as the concession stand, laundry room, and training room. The funds may also be used for direct support of individual teams’ needs within the Athletic Department- such as for equipment.
Financial impact: The funds are donated so there will be no impact to the general budget.

My name is Kevin Byard, professional football player for the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL.
Please let this letter serve as notice of my $5,000 to the MLK Athletics program. I am a graduate
of MLK and the first NFL athlete to be drafted by the National Football Association. On May 6th,
2022, MLK named the athletic hallway and the weightroom after me. As part of my plan to
continue to give back to my former high school, I would like to continue to donate to help
upgrade facilities and make the athletic program be the best it can be in whatever capacity
athletics may seem to need. The funds donated are to be specifically for the athletic program.
Coach Bush contacted me earlier in the summer about a few projects she was working on and
needed additional funding so, I wanted to be able to assist her in anyway I could. So please
accept this donation of $5,000 for the upgrade and betterment of the MLK athletic program and
facilities.
